WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Halim Rashid Quddus was born and raised in the City of Newark and became one of its leading businessmen, minority entrepreneur, business consultant and community activist. Owner and founder of USA Appliances and Furniture and H&M Furniture and Appliances. Halim was a graduate of Lincoln Tech, where he learned the trade of air-conditioning and refrigeration, the cornerstone of his business empire; and

WHEREAS, Halim Rashid Quddus, a deeply religious man who followed the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and his message of "Do For Self", had the opportunity to perform Hajj to Mecca on three (3) separate occasions and traveled to Turkey and Dubai for business opportunities with his teacher, leader and business partner, the world renowned Muslim leader, Imam Wallace Dean Muhammad; and

WHEREAS, Halim Rashid Quddus, an established author, founded the Muslim American Chamber of Commerce (MAAC) and was featured in numerous local publications regarding his philanthropy, community service and activism and business acumen. He was also appointed to the Newark Zoning Board.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
