WHEREAS, an emergency has arisen in the Special Item of Appropriation in the amount of $40,997.45 for the 2019 Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund  Grant  Program (DDEF) and no adequate provision has been made in the 2019 temporary budget for the aforesaid purpose and N.J.S.A 40A:4-20 provides for the creation of an emergency appropriation for the purpose abovementioned; and

 

WHEREAS, by Resolution 7R9-a adopted July 10, 2019, the City of Newark accepted the 2019 Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund  Grant  Program (DDEF)  in the amount of $40,997.45 to fund overtime initiatives that address drunk driving violations within the City of Newark ; and

 

WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 provides that the Governing Body by a two-thirds vote may make temporary emergency appropriations for any purpose for which appropriations may lawfully be made for the period between the beginning of the current fiscal year and the date of the adoption of the budget for said year; and

 

WHEREAS, the emergency appropriations adopted in 2019 pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20, including this resolution total… $417,659,377.18.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     A temporary emergency appropriation be and the same is hereby made for the following classification:

2.                     Said emergency appropriation shall be provided for in the 2019 budget.

 

3.                     A copy of this resolution shall be filed with the Director of Local Government Services by the City Clerk of the City of Newark.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This resolution authorizes and establishes the temporary emergency appropriation in the amount of $40,997.45 for the 2019 Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund (DDEF) Grant Program, funded by the State of New Jersey, Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Highway Traffic Safety, to fund overtime initiatives that address drunk driving violations in the City of Newark. The contract period commences on April 1, 2019 terminating at such time when funds are expended.
