WHEREAS, New Jersey Transit’s Bus Safety Department conducted an investigation for proposed bus stop location changes due to safety concerns; and
WHEREAS, at the request of the Department of Engineering and review of the traffic operations by New Jersey Transit in conjunction with the City of Newark, Division of Traffic and Signals and pursuant to N.J.S.A. Section 39:4-197(3)(a) of the Revised Statues of New Jersey, the following described locations are added and deleted as a bus stop:
ADD BUS STOP:
1. In the South Ward, along Bergen Street, northbound on the easterly side thereof:
a. Watson Avenue, farside.
Beginning at the northerly curb line of Watson Avenue and extending 100ft northerly therefrom.
DELETED BUS STOP:
2. In the South Ward, along Bergen Street, northbound on the easterly side thereof:
a. Watson Avenue, nearside.
Beginning at the southerly curb line of Watson Avenue and extending 105ft southerly therefrom.
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. Section 39:4-197(3)(a) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, a municipality may by ordinance, resolution or regulation designate, relocate or delete a bus stop.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. In the South Ward, the following described location is hereby relocated as a bus stop:
From: along Bergen Street, northbound, on the easterly side at Watson Avenue nearside location. Beginning at the southerly curb line of Watson Avenue and extending 105ft southerly therefrom.
To: along Bergen Street northbound on the easterly side at Watson Avenue farside location. Beginning at the northerly curb line of Watson Avenue and extending 100ft northerly therefrom.
2. No Municipal funds need to be expended for this act.
3. No Amendment will be made to this resolution without the approval of the Municipal Council of the City of Newark.
4. Upon approval, the Director of the Engineering Department will forward a copy of this resolution to the Office of the City Clerk to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the relocation of a bus stop as stated.
5. Upon approval, a certified copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to New Jersey Transit to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the relocation of a bus stop as stated.
6. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-8 (e) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, the proposed bus stop relocation does not require New Jersey Department of Transportation’s approval.
STATEMENT
This resolution designates the relocation of a bus stop in the South Ward as follows:
From: along Bergen Street northbound on the easterly side thereof at Watson Avenue at the nearside location. Beginning at the southerly curb line of Watson Avenue and extending 105ft southerly therefrom.
To: along Bergen Street northbound on the easterly side thereof at Watson Avenue at the farside location. Beginning at the northerly curb line of Watson Avenue and extending 100ft northerly therefrom.
