WHEREAS, Axon Enterprise, Inc., 17800 North 85th Street, Scottsdale, Arizona  85255, in partnership with the Major Cities Chiefs Association, 300 M Street South East, Suite 402, Washington D.C. 20003 (collectively, the “Donor”) wishes to provide a gift of Two Thousand Three Hundred Eighty One Dollars and  Zero Cents ($2,381.00) to the Department of Public Safety, Division of Police, for the purpose of providing free meals to Newark Police Officers in recognition of their hard work and efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic (a copy of the gift award letter is attached); and 

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to Local Public Contracts Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:5-29, a local unit is authorized and empowered to accept bequests, legacies and gifts made to it and is empowered to utilize such bequests, legacies and gifts in the manner set forth in the conditions of the bequest, legacy or gift provided, however, that such bequest, legacy or gift shall not be put to any use which is inconsistent with the laws of the State of New Jersey and the United States of America; and

 

WHEREAS, the Donor fully understands and agrees that it is not entitled to receive any direct benefit from the City of Newark in exchange for the gift (a copy of correspondence is attached); and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Newark, Department of Public Safety, wishes to accept the gift of  Two Thousand Three Hundred Eighty One Dollars And Zero Cents ($2,381.00) in support of providing free meals to Newark Police Officers in recognition of their hard work and efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:5-29.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Public Safety are hereby authorized to accept a gift of Two Thousand Three Hundred Eighty One Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,381.00) from Axon Enterprise, Inc., 17800 North 85th Street, Scottsdale, Arizona 85255,  in partnership with the Major Cities Chiefs Association, 300 M Street South East, Suite 402, Washington D.C. 20003 in support of providing free meals to Newark Police Officers in recognition of their hard work and efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

2.                     No municipal funds will be expended in acceptance of this gift. Axon Enterprise, Inc. and the Major Cities Chiefs Association fully understand and agree that it is not entitled to receive any direct benefit from the City of Newark in exchange for the gift.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

                     This resolution authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Public Safety to accept a gift of Two Thousand Three Hundred Eighty One Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,381.00), from Axon Enterprise, Inc., in partnership with the Major Cities Chiefs Association, in support of providing free meals to Newark Police Officers in recognition of their hard work and efforts during the COVID-19 crisis. No municipal funds are required for the acceptance of this gift.
