                      WHEREAS, the appalling arrests and murder of Mr. George Floyd by members of the Minneapolis Police Department sparked weeks of public outrage, demonstrations and civil disobedience, in cities throughout the United States and abroad; and 

 

WHEREAS, in the aftermath of the protests and demonstrations, there has been a public outcry and demand for the rehabilitation and reform of police practices, operations, and funding; and

 

WHEREAS, the African Diaspora for Justice Organization, a subsidiary of Africa 400 Years.Org, has planned a peaceful protest in the City of Newark to provide its membership and the residents of Newark the opportunity to express their support and solidarity with fellow citizens affected by police brutality and the maltreatment of people of color; and

 

WHEREAS, the Municipal Council wishes to support their right to peaceful protests by providing usage of the City Hall rotunda and access to the City Hall steps.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Municipal Council does hereby support the African Diaspora for Justice Peaceful Protest, to be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020, from 12:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., on the steps of City Hall.
