WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, John Morgan, Sr., built a legacy of dedication and love for the City of Newark and it’s residents over a number of years and many speak of him as a father figure who contributed to the quality of life for many Newark families; and
WHEREAS, John Morgan, Sr., and his wife Eliza arrived in New Jersey in 1954 from their birth state of South Carolina, after he served six (6) years in Germany while in the United States Army. Mr. Morgan not only provided housing for many residents, he also created jobs within the community through his businesses at either Morgan’s Lounge or his plumbing business and was always helping someone in need.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council hereby authorizes the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of West Runyon Street and Clinton Place as “John Morgan Sr. Boulevard.”
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain West Runyon Street and Clinton Place in their entirety.

This resolution authorizes the renaming of the intersection of West Runyon Street and Clinton Place as “John Morgan Sr. Boulevard”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
