WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Antonio Fernando Pereira, was born in northern Portugal where he developed his love for family, the countryside and good food. He learned to become a man and gained his respect for the sea in the Portuguese Merchant Marines as he then traveled the world until he found a place to call home, Newark, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, “Nando,” as he was affectionately called by his family, married the love of his life, Maria and they shared forty-six (46) years of marriage filled with tough struggles, fruitful dreams, love and a friendship that grew stronger with every year; and
WHEREAS, Antonio Fernando Pereira, started his career as a very young man and learned to work hard, stay focused, and stand up for what he believed. He began working in the automotive collision restoration business and with his love of cars and quality work, he created Lusamer Auto body.
WHEREAS, He was loved by all in his community and contributed often to those in need.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council hereby authorizes the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Austin Street and Parkhurst Street as “Antonio Fernando Pereira Way.”
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Austin Street and Parkhurst Street in their entirety.
STATEMENT
This resolution authorizes the Ceremonial Street Designation of the intersection of Austin Street and Parkhurst Street as “Antonio Fernando Pereira Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
