WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Geraldo “Jerry” Rosa was born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico in 1932 and moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1946 at the age of fourteen (14); and
WHEREAS, Geraldo “Jerry” Rosa was a business owner for over thirty (30) years in the Central and North Wards, since the 1970’s he owned Jerry’s Tire Shop and Jerry’s Service Center in the Sunoco Gas Station; and
WHEREAS, “Jerry” was a decades long supporter of the FOP Newark Lodge 52 and the Newark PBA Members, he was a man best known for his hard work and donations to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council hereby authorizes the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Summer Avenue and Woodside Place as “Geraldo Rosa Way.”
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Summer Avenue and Woodside Place in their entirety.
STATEMENT
This resolution authorizes the Ceremonial Street Designation of the intersection of Summer Avenue and Woodside Place as “Geraldo Rosa Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
