WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Lifelong Newark residents, John and Mildred Cross, affectionately known as "Bubba and Nana", were two (2) kindred spirits, who fulfilled their passion in life, unwavering commitment and dedication to improving the lives of the people and the community they loved dearly; and

WHEREAS, their year round altruistic service to the community knew no bounds or season-whether feeding the hungry and the homeless, providing clothes, toys and school supplies to the children, prayer and comfort to those in need of spiritual nourishment and transportation services for the elderly and shut-in; and

WHEREAS, John and Mildred Cross were devoutly Christian, and were called to become deacon and deaconess of New Hope Baptist Church, where they supported and participated in over 90% of the church ministries, including its prison ministry, drug rehabilitation ministry, youth outreach programs and were known lovingly as "the church van drivers"; and

WHEREAS, they were the proud and doting parents of five (5) children who have continue their legacy of giving and community activism and concern.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
