WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Vincent James Cordi, Sr., a lifelong resident of Newark, retired as a Road Supervisor from the City of Belleville, New Jersey after twenty-five (25) years of public service in 1990. He also worked many years as a Tractor Ttrailer Driver for the Strickland Company located in Newark; and
WHEREAS, Vincent Cordi, Sr., was a proud and an honored member of the "greatest generation", he served honorably in the United State Army during World War ll, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, the Governing Body is seeking to maintain the legacy of outstanding Newark residents such as Vincent James Cordi, Sr., for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Delevan Avenue and North 10th Street as "Vincent James Cordi, Sr. Way".
2. The official name of said streets shall remain as Delevan Avenue and North 10th Street in its entirety.
