WHEREAS, New Jersey Transit’s Bus Safety Department conducted an investigation for the existing bus stop locations and has requested this Resolution because a Resolution authorizing the designation of these existing bus stop locations cannot be found in the City’s records; and
WHEREAS, at the request of the Department of Engineering and review of the traffic operations by New Jersey Transit in conjunction with the City of Newark, Division of Traffic and Signals and pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-197(3)(a), the following described locations are added as a bus stop:
ADD BUS STOPS:
1. In the Central Ward, along 12th Avenue eastbound on the southerly side thereof:
a. South 11th Street, nearside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of South 11th Street and extending 105 feet westerly therefrom.
b. Bergen Street, nearside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of Bergen Street and extending 105 feet westerly therefrom.
c. Newton Street, nearside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of Newton Street and extending 105 feet westerly therefrom.
2. In the Central Ward, along 12th Avenue, westbound on the northerly side thereof:
a. Bergen Street, farside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of Bergen Street and extending 100 feet westerly therefrom.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 39:4-197(3)(a) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, a municipality may by ordinance, resolution or regulation designate, relocate or delete a bus stop.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. In the Central Ward, the following described locations are hereby ADDED as a bus stop:
Along 12th Avenue, eastbound on the southerly side at South 11th Street nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of South 11th Street and extending 105 feet westerly therefrom.
Along 12th Avenue, eastbound on the southerly side at Bergen Street nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Bergen Street and extending 105 feet westerly therefrom.
Along 12th Avenue, eastbound on the southerly side at Newton Street nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Newton Street and extending 105 feet westerly therefrom.
Along 12th Avenue, westbound on the northerly side at Bergen Street farside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Bergen Street and extending 100 feet westerly therefrom.
2. No Municipal funds need to be expended for this act.
3. No amendment will be made to this Resolution without the approval of the Municipal Council.
4. Upon approval, the Director of the Department of Engineering will forward a copy of this Resolution to the Office of the City Clerk to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the designation of bus stops as stated.
5. Upon approval, a certified copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to New Jersey Transit to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the designation of bus stops as stated.
6. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-8 (e) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, the proposed bus stop locations does not require New Jersey Department of Transportation’s approval.
STATEMENT
This Resolution designates and adds the location of bus stops in the Central Ward as follows:
• Along 12th Avenue eastbound on the southerly side, thereof at South 11th Street at the nearside location, beginning at the westerly curb line of South 11th Street and extending 105 feet westerly therefrom.
• Along 12th Avenue eastbound on the southerly side, thereof at Bergen Street at the nearside location, beginning at the westerly curb line of Bergen Street and extending 105 feet westerly therefrom.
• Along 12th Avenue eastbound on the southerly side, thereof at Newton Street at the nearside location, beginning at the westerly curb line of Newton Street and extending 105 feet westerly therefrom.
• Along 12th Avenue westbound on the northerly side, thereof at Bergen Street at the farside location, beginning at the westerly curb line of Bergen Street and extending 100 feet westerly therefrom.
