WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Esther Harris lived in Newark on Hawkins Street all of her adult life, worked at the Essex County, Department of Citizen Services, Division of Welfare for over thirty-five (35) years; and

WHEREAS, Esther Harris, raised four (4) daughters and over the years opened her home, here in Newark to provide fostering, adoption and mentorship for over thirty (30) children; and

WHEREAS, her spirit of volunteering and community uplifting was steadfast. In addition to serving on the Newark Housing Authority's Board, as Treasurer for many years, Esther Harris was honored with the inclusion of her name in what is known as the "Jordan and Harris Community Health Center"; and

WHEREAS, Esther Harris's legacy will be forever remembered and revered as a positive role model for those who which to veer off track and assist those in need with an unwavering integrity and unquestionable love and commitment to families, friends and to the City of Newark.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
