WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the "City") is a Civil Service jurisdiction governed by Title 11A and Title 4A of the Administrative Code; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 11A: 4-1.3 et seq. and Ordinance 2:22-3.6 (c) the City is authorized to hire police officers who may not have taken an open competitive examination for the title Police Officer, but are otherwise duly qualified, have completed training, and hold a valid New Jersey Police Training Commission Certificate as a Police Officer (Basic Course for Police Officer); and

WHEREAS, the Acting Director of the Department of Public Safety submits to the Municipal Council, a list of eight (8) candidates (identified in Schedule A) that are the best qualified candidates and request authorization to hire them as Police Officers.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Business Administrator and the Acting Director of the Department of Public Safety on behalf of the City of Newark is authorized to hire as permanent full-time members of the Department of Public Safety, Police Division, the eight (8) candidates (identified in Schedule A) pursuant to the Alternate Hiring Program, N.J.S.A. 11A:4-1.3 et seq. and Ordinance 2:22-3.6.
