WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Don Juan Padilla, who was born in Palos Blancos, Corozal, Puerto Rico in 1930, emigrated to the City of Newark, New Jersey in 1947 seeking a better and more productive life; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Padilla achieved his dream, successfully raising seven (7) children in the home he purchased on Wakeman Avenue and becoming a community leader and fixture of his neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, “Don Juan” as he was affectionately known, was most respected throughout the neighborhood for his unselfish deeds and actions, always providing assistance and help for those in need without any hesitation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Wakeman Avenue as “Don Juan Padilla Way.”
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Arlington Avenue and Wakeman Avenue in their entirety.

This Resolution authorizes the renaming of the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Wakeman Avenue as “Don Juan Padilla Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
