Purpose: To give homeowners and property owners additional time to pay their property taxes due to Tax Bills going out late.

WHEREAS, the Tax Collector and/or Finance Director is statutorily mandated to collect property taxes so as the Administration can provide essential services to the citizens of the City of Newark, and the Administration recognizes that; and,
WHEREAS, the 2022 Budget adoption was delayed and caused the 2022 Final Tax Bills to be sent out late which creates a need to extend the statutory due dates to allow the homeowners and property owners sufficient time to pay the 2022 3rd quarter taxes which had a due date of October 24, 2022, and the 2022 4th quarter taxes which had a due date of November 14, 2022 that the due dates be extended to December 31, 2022 respectively for the 2022 3rd and 4th quarter tax bills.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY THAT:
1). The Tax Collector and/or Finance Director is hereby authorized to extend the due dates for the 2022 3rd and 4th quarter property tax payments to December 31, 2022, that no interest will be charged until after December 31, 2022.
2). Interest will be assessed on all 2022 3rd and 4th quarter payments received after December 31, 2022 without regard to this resolution
3). This resolution shall take effect on October 24, 2022 and end on December 31, 2022 and will not be extended or amended
4). Pursuant to P.L. 2020. C34 which amended N.J.S.A. 54:4-67(b), the Tax Collector and Finance Director are hereby authorized to do all things necessary to accomplish this task
STATEMENT
This Resolution authorizes the Tax Collector and/or Finance Director to extend the payment due dates for the 2022 3rd and 4th quarter taxes to December 31, 2022.
