The trees, decorations, lighting and storage containers have a value of $6,000.00.

                     WHEREAS, Essex County Commissioner President Wayne Richardson, DDA Pioneer Investment Group and Health Benefit Advisors, 275 Ellery Avenue, Newark, New Jersey 07106, would like to donate a total of five (5) 6-foot Christmas Tree with decorations, lighting and storage containers to each of our five Senior Centers to the City of Newark (the “City”) to beautify the Senior Centers during the Holiday Season contributing to a fun and festive ambiance during the Holidays. The trees, decorations, lighting and storage containers have a value of approximately Six Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($6,000.00); and

 

                     WHEREAS, this gift will be provided to five (5) Senior Centers within the City of Newark, including: Bethany Baptist Church Senior Center, 275 West Market Street (Central Ward); Boylan Senior Center, 94 William Street (West Ward); Ironbound Senior Center, 226 Rome Street (East Ward); Nellie Grier Senior Center, 98-104 Maple Avenue (South Ward); and Vince Lombardi Senior Center, 201 Bloomfield Avenue (North Ward); and

 

                     WHEREAS, Essex County Commissioner President Wayne Richardson, DDA Pioneer Investment Group and Health Benefit Advisors, as part of this donation would like to provide a facilitator to assist the senior citizens with the set up and break down of the trees, which will be subsequently placed in storage containers at the end of the 2022 year; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Senior Services (the “Department”) desires to accept the gift of the Christmas trees, decorations, lighting, storage containers and a facilitator to assist with the set-up and breakdown of the Christmas trees and will acknowledge the donation by way of photo op during the Christmas Holiday Party at each Senior Center; and

 

WHEREAS, the City desires to expand and enrich the beautification and programming opportunities to the residents of Newark and to partner with Essex County Commissioner President Wayne Richardson, DDA Pioneer Investment Group and Health Benefit Advisors, by creating opportunities for all Newark residents, especially the City’s seniors, and enhancing the environment of the senior centers with beautifully decorated Christmas trees; and

 

WHEREAS, Essex County Commissioner President Wayne Richardson, DDA Pioneer Investment Group and Health Benefit Advisors fully understands and agrees that it is not entitled to receive any direct benefit from the City of Newark, Mayor Ras J. Baraka, or any other personnel affiliated with the City of Newark in exchange for the gift; andWHEREAS, pursuant to Local Public Contracts Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:5-29, a local unit is authorized and empowered to accept bequests, legacies and gifts made to it and is empowered to utilize such bequests, legacies and gifts in the manner set forth in the conditions of the bequest, legacy or gift provided, however, that such bequest, legacy, or gift shall not be put to any use which is inconsistent with the laws of the State of New Jersey and the United States of America.

 

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Senior Services, are authorized to accept the gift from Essex County Commissioner President Wayne Richardson, DDA Pioneer Investment Group and Health Benefit Advisors, 275 Ellery Avenue, Newark, New Jersey  07106 of five (5) 6-foot Christmas trees with decorations, lighting and storage containers to each of our five Senior Centers within the City of Newark (the “City”) to beautify the Senior Centers, which includes: Bethany Baptist Church Senior Center, 275 West Market Street (Central Ward); Boylan Senior Center, 94 William Street (West Ward); Ironbound Senior Center, 226 Rome Street (East Ward); Nellie Grier Senior Center, 98-104 Maple Avenue (South Ward); and Vince Lombardi Senior Center, 201 Bloomfield Avenue (North Ward).   

 

2.                     This gift of five (5) 6-foot Christmas trees with decorations, lighting and storage containers for each of the five (5) Senior Centers is valued at approximately Six Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($6,000.00).

 

3.                     The City acknowledges the generous donation of the Christmas trees, decorations, lighting, storage containers and a facilitator to assist with the set-up and breakdown of the Christmas trees through this Resolution and by authorizing the photo op during the Christmas Holiday Party at each Senior Center. 

 

4.                     The acceptance of the gift is ratified from approximately November 10, 2022, to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.

 

5.                     No municipal funds will be expended for the acceptance of this gift.

 

 

STATEMENT
