WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the “City”) established the position of Fire Official by Ordinance 6S&Fa(S-2) adopted on March 13, 1996; and
WHEREAS, due to the retirement of the previous Fire Official, the City wishes to appoint a Fire Official within the Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Official shall be the Officer-in-Charge of the Division of Fire Prevention and Life Safety and must be certified by the State of New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Division of Fire Safety and serves at the discretion of the Department Director; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Public Safety, desires to appoint Gwendolyn Saleem, as Fire Official by way of this authorizing Resolution, this appointment is as of July 1, 2022.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. Gwendolyn Saleem is hereby appointed as Fire Official, upon Municipal Council approval, hereby ratified by this authorizing Resolution to an effective date of July 1, 2022.

This Resolution ratifies and authorizes the appointment of Gwendolyn Saleem as Fire Official, effective as of July 1, 2022.
