WHEREAS, New Jersey Transit Bus Safety Department conducted an investigation for the proposed designation and deletion of Bus Stop locations has requested this Resolution due to the congestion and improper parking by the residents on the current routes of the #34 bus line. Be advised revenues for the City will be impacted due to the elimination of some permit parking along the proposed bus stop on Walnut Street at McWhorter Street; and
WHEREAS, at the request of the Department of Engineering and review of the traffic operations by New Jersey Transit in conjunction with the City of Newark, Division of Traffic and Signals and pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-197(3)(A), the following described locations are added and deleted as a Bus Stop.
Added:
1. In the East Ward, along Walnut Street, westbound, on the northerly side thereof:
a. Pacific Street, far side
Beginning at the westerly curb line of Pacific Street and extending 100 feet westerly therefrom.
b. McWhorter Street, far side
Beginning at the westerly curb line of McWhorter Street and extending 100 feet westerly therefrom.
2. In the East Ward, along NJ Railroad Avenue, northbound, on the easterly side thereof:
a. Lafayette Street, nearside
Beginning at the southerly curb line of Lafayette Street and extending 105 feet southerly therefrom.
b. Elm Street, far side Beginning at the northerly curb line of Elm Street and extending 100 feet northerly therefrom.
Deleted:
1. In the East Ward, along Pacific Street, northbound, on the easterly side thereof:
a. Walnut Street, nearside
Beginning at the southerly curb line of Walnut Street and extending 100 feet southerly therefrom.
2. In the East Ward, along Union Street, northbound, on the easterly side thereof:
a. Ferry Street, nearside
Beginning at the northerly curb line of Ferry Street and extending 100 feet northerly therefrom.
b. Green Street, nearside
Beginning at the northerly curb line of Green Street and extending 100 feet northerly therefrom.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 39:4-197(3)(a) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey a municipality may by ordinance, resolution or regulation designate, relocate or delete a Bus Stop.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, THAT:
1. In the East Ward, the following described locations are hereby added and deleted as a bus stop:
Add: along Walnut Street, westbound on the northerly side at Pacific Street, far side location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Pacific Street and extending 100 feet westerly therefrom.
Add: along Walnut Street, westbound on the northerly side at McWhorter Street, far side location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of McWhorter Street and extending 100 feet westerly therefrom.
Add: along NJ Railroad Avenue, northbound on the easterly side at Lafayette Street, nearside location. Beginning at the southerly curb line of Lafayette Street and extending 105 feet southerly therefrom.
Add: along NJ Railroad Avenue, northbound on the easterly side at Elm Street, far side location. Beginning at the northerly curb line of Elm Street and extending 100 feet northerly therefrom.
Delete: along Pacific Street, northbound on the easterly side at Walnut Street, nearside location. Beginning at the southerly curb line of Walnut Street and extending 100 feet southerly therefrom.
Delete: along Union Street, northbound on the easterly side at Ferry Street, nearside location. Beginning at the northerly curb line of Ferry Street and extending 100 feet northerly therefrom.
Delete: along Union Street, northbound on the easterly side at Green Street nearside location. Beginning at the northerly curb line of Green Street and extending 100 feet northerly therefrom.
2. No municipal funds need to be expended for this act.
3. No amendment will be made to this Resolution without the approval of the Municipal Council.
4. Upon approval, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering will forward a copy of this Resolution to the Office of the City Clerk to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the designation and deletion of bus stops as stated.
5. Upon approval, a certified copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to New Jersey Transit to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the designation and deletion of bus stops as stated.
6. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-8(e) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, the proposed bus stop locations do not require New Jersey Department of Transportation’s approval.
STATEMENT
This Resolution designates and deletes the location of bus stops in the East Ward as follows:
Add: along Walnut Street, westbound on the northerly side at Pacific Street far side location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Pacific Street and extending 100 feet westerly therefrom.
Add: along Walnut Street, westbound on the northerly side at McWhorter Street far side location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of McWhorter Street and extending 100 feet westerly therefrom.
Add: along NJ Railroad Avenue, northbound on the easterly side at Lafayette Street nearside location. Beginning at the southerly curb line of Lafayette Street and extending 105 feet southerly therefrom.
Add: along NJ Railroad Avenue, northbound on the easterly side at Elm Street far side location. Beginning at the northerly curb line of Elm Street and extending 100 feet northerly therefrom.
Delete: along Pacific Street, northbound on the easterly side at Walnut Street nearside location. Beginning at the southerly curb line of Walnut Street and extending 100 feet southerly therefrom.
