The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 12:00 P.M.

The Parade route will begin at beginning at Lafayette Street and Mulberry Street (Prudential Center), ending at Central Avenue and Washington Street (Washington Park).

WHEREAS, Irish-Americans from organizations located primarily in Essex, Hudson and Union counties came together in 1936 to form the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, Inc., (the “Committee”) and sponsored New Jersey’s first, largest and foremost St. Patrick’s Day Parade (the “Parade) throughout New Jersey; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2023 St. Patrick’s Day Parade will celebrate the 88th Anniversary of the City’s long-standing tribute to the accomplishments and contributions of Americans of Irish ancestry; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2023 edition of the Parade represents a multi-cultural celebration highlighted by the participation of high school bands from throughout Essex, Hudson, Bergen and Union counties; and

 

WHEREAS, under the dynamic leadership of Parade Chairperson Susan H. Garland, the Committee will sponsor week-long promotions and charitable giving programs for worthy institutions and dedicate the 2023 Parade to the late Thomas H. Kenny, who distinguished himself as a strong supporter of the Parade for many years; and

 

WHEREAS, the Municipal Council wishes to publicly recognize the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, Inc., the 2023 Grand Marshal James Fallon, Deputy Grand Marshals Peggy Farrell Daingerfield, Reverent Paul Donohue and Rick Smith, and their plans for a week of spiritual, educational, culture, charitable and economic activities that will enrich the fabric of the City.   

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Municipal Council does hereby support the 88th Anniversary of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade to be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, 12:00 P.M., beginning at Lafayette Street and Mulberry Street, ending at Central Avenue and Washington Street, and in recognition of the many contributions that Irish-Americans have made to the City of Newark declares the week of March 10, 2023 through March 17, 2023, as Irish Heritage Week.

 

2.                     A copy of this Resolution shall be presented by the Municipal Council to Grand Marshal James Fallon, Deputy Grand Marshals Peggy Farrell Daingerfield, Reverend Paul Donohue, Rick Smith and Parade Chairwoman Susan H. Gartland.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution hereby supports the 88th Anniversary of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, to be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, 12:00 P.M., beginning at Lafayette Street and Mulberry Street (Prudential Center) and ending at Central Avenue and Washington Street (Washington Park). Also in recognition of the contributions Americans of Irish ancestry have made to the City of Newark, the City proudly declares the week of March 10, 2023 through March 17, 2023, as Irish Heritage Week.
