WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation ("NJDOT") 2021 Safe Streets to Transit Program (SST Program), provides grant funding for infrastructure improvements for traditional and non-traditional transportation initiatives that enable and encourage walking and bicycling to transit; and

WHEREAS, on July 6, 2020, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Director of the Department of Engineering submitted an electronic grant application to NJDOT requesting grant funding in the amount of Three Hundred Ninety-Three Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($393,000.00), from the New Jersey Department of Transportation's 2021 SST Program, to improve the intersection at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Sussex Avenue and Central Avenue, with no City funds required; and
