WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Jose Luis Fernandez, was the consummate public servant, who served the City of Newark and its residents as the owner of the Friendly Check Cashing Place located at 259 Broad Street for over forty-five (45) years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Fernandez came from Cuba and moved to the City of Newark where he started his business and then left the business to his son, who is now the owner; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Fernandez was a warm and loving figure in Newark’s North Ward where he worked tirelessly to share his professionalism with his community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Broad Street and Bloomfield Place as “Jose Luis Fernandez Blvd.”.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Broad Street and Bloomfield Place in their entirety.

This Resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Broad Street and Bloomfield Place as “Jose Luis Fernandez Blvd.”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
