WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

 

WHEREAS, Lorenzo R. Blanco, was one of the first Hispanics to own a barber shop, “Blanco’s International Cuts” at 1 Bloomfield Avenue in the City of Newark; and

 

WHEREAS, Lorenzo R. Blanco moved to Newark from Cuba, he was a trailblazer, who loved life, his family, his business, community and the City of Newark; and

 

WHEREAS, Lorenzo R. Blanco was an iconic business owner for forty-seven (47) years, who was always available to help others.  His sons still run the business and share the care and friendship their father shared with his community.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

                     

1.                     The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Broadway as “Lorenzo R. Blanco Blvd.”.

 

2.                     The official name of the said streets shall remain Bloomfield Avenue and Broadway in their entirety.

This Resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Broadway as “Lorenzo R. Blanco Blvd.”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
