This Resolution will amend the Grant Program period from February 26, 2024 through February 25, 2027, to February 5, 2024 through February 4, 2027.

WHEREAS, the Municipal Council adopted Resolution 7R9-a December 20, 2023, authorizing the acceptance of grant funds in the amount of Five Million Three Hundred Forty-Six Thousand Six Hundred Thirty-Nine Dollars and Sixty Cents ($5,346,639.60) from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (“FEMA”), FY 2022 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (“SAFER”) grant program to restore and maintain the number of trained, front-line firefighters in the Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire, for the period of performance commencing on February 26, 2024, and terminating on February 25, 2027; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire (“Division”) requested the period of performance of said FEMA grant be amended from February 26, 2024 through February 25, 2027 to February 5, 2024 through February 4, 2027; and

 

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FEMA has granted the Division’s request for said amendment.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The grant period authorized by Resolution 7R9-a 12/20/2023 is hereby amended. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire, are hereby authorized to take any further measures necessary to amend the period of performance of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency,  FY 2022 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant program from February 26, 2024 through February 25, 2027 to February 5, 2024 through February 4, 2027. They are further authorized to receive and expend the grant award for the amended grant period (a copy of the original award letter and the memo amending same are attached hereto and made a part hereof).

 

2.                     Resolution 7R9-a 12/20/2023 is amended to the extent it is inconsistent with this Resolution. All other provisions of Resolution 7R9-a 12/20/2023 shall remain the same.

 

3.                     This Resolution is ratified back from February 6, 2024 to the date of its adoption.
