Purpose: To declare April 14th through April 20, 2024 National 9-1-1 Operator’s and Police and Fire Dispatchers Week.

WHEREAS, in 1991 a Congressional Proclamation, along with the President of the United States, historically deemed the second week of April to be National Public Safety Week; and

 

WHEREAS, the 911 Operators and Police and Fire Dispatchers are the first point of contact and the true backbone of the United States Emergency 9-1-1 system; and 

 

WHEREAS, emergencies can occur at any time that requires 911 Operators/Police and Fire Dispatchers, as well as one or all of the First Responders-Police, Fire and/or Emergency Medical Services to assist; and 

 

WHEREAS, the safety of our Police Officers, Fire Fighters and Paramedics are dependent upon the accuracy of information obtained from the caller via the 911 Operators/Public Safety Telecommunications and relayed to the Police and Fire dispatchers accurately to be dispatched to ensure the preservation of life and the protection of property; and

 

WHEREAS, dispatchers of the City’s Department of Public Safety, Divisions of Police and Fire, 911 Communication Call Center is the first line to secure help for the Police Officers, Fire Fighters and Paramedics by monitoring their activities via radio, providing and updating information ensuring their safety; and

 

WHEREAS, the dispatcher may not be the first to arrive at the scene of an emergency, but they are the first one that a person speaks to on possibly the worst day of their life in any crisis situation.

    

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Municipal Council proclaims April 14th through April 20th 2024, “National 9-1-1 Operator’s and Police and Fire Dispatchers Week”   throughout the City of Newark, New Jersey.

 

2.                     This Resolution of Support is hereby ratified to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.

 

3.                     A copy of the Resolution shall be filed with the Office of the City Clerk.

                     This Resolution proclaims the Municipal Council support of National 9-1-1 Operator’s and Police and Fire Dispatchers Week for the appreciation of 911 Operators/Police and Fire Dispatchers, as well as First Responders-Police, Fire and/or Emergency Medical Services Personnel for the week of April 14th through April 20,, 2024, throughout the City of Newark, New Jersey.
