AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE XXIII, TRAFFIC, CHAPTER 3, PROHIBITED TURNS, SECTION 23:3-5, NO TURNS ON RED, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY PROHIBITING RIGHT TURNS ON RED AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. BOULEVARD, SUSSEX AVENUE AND CENTRAL AVENUE AND DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. BOULEVARD AND ORANGE STREET (CENTRAL WARD).

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, has determined the two (2) intersections of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Sussex Avenue and Central Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Orange Street in the Central Ward qualifies for a "No Turns on Red" designation, from south on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to the west on Central Avenue and east on Orange Street to south on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; and
WHEREAS, such designation will improve safety and avoid pedestrian and vehicle conflicts at the intersections due to unforeseen upcoming traffic; and
WHEREAS, the Division of Traffic and Signals desires to improve safety at the two (2) signalized intersections of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Sussex Avenue and Central Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Orange Street in Central Ward by prohibiting right turns on red from south on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to the west on Central Avenue and east on Orange Street to south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
SECTION 1. Title XXIII, Traffic, Chapter 3, Prohibited Turns, Section 23:3-5, No Turns on Red, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, by adding the following:
