WHEREAS, the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety (DHTS) solicits applications for highway safety grant projects designed to reduce impaired driving through high visibility enforcement and public education, ultimately aiming to save lives by preventing alcohol and drug related crashes; and

WHEREAS, the DHTS Grant program entitled "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" emphasizes the life-saving importance of sober driving; and

WHEREAS, the City of Newark ("City") is committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens and spreading this life-saving message throughout our City; and

WHEREAS, on or about July 18, 2025, on behalf of the City, the Director of Public Safety caused to be submitted an application to the DHTS requesting grant funding in the amount of Seven Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($7,000.00) from the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" Campaign ("Application") to be used to fund police overtime initiatives to enforce sober driving statewide in a Labor Day crackdown throughout the City with no City funds required; and
