WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Bert R. Berry, born on Bruce Street, February 12, 1930, in Newark, New Jersey, as a true scholarly individual, his journey through Newark's Robert Treat Elementary and Barringer High School was cap-stoned with a degree from Howard University and a Master's Degree from Montclair State College; and

WHEREAS, Bert R. Berry, began teaching in the City of Newark upon graduation from Howard University and ascended the educational ladder as a Department Chair, Vice-President Title 1 Coordinator, Principal at Chancellor Avenue School, and became the first Principal at 13th Avenue School, with a population over 4,600 students from 1972 through 1992; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the unprecedented size of Chancellor Avenue Elementary School as the 3rd largest school in New Jersey, he continued to provide assistance to various organization. His intuitiveness help found CASA, the Union for school administrators employed within the Newark Public School System; and

WHEREAS, Bert R. Berry throughout his professional career provided guidance to many. He led a school located within the West Ward community, but his reach far exceeded the West Ward, as an educator,...
