WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Anthony F. Granato born January 8, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey, attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and Good Council High School prior to entering the Seminary to begin his vocation to the priesthood Reverend Granato was ordained on May 26, 1956 and offered his first mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Granato was assigned as Pastor of St. Anthony's Church in East Newark where he remained as Pastor for twenty-eight (28) years and was instrumental in ensuring the solvency of the Parrish in addition to serving as Chaplin for the East Newark Fire Department and Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Anthony F. Granato was loved and respected for his spiritual guidance and leadership to individuals and the community, while also known for his sense of humor and humility.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Park Avenue as "Rev. Anthony F. Granato Way".
