WHEREAS, The New Jersey State Legislature has appropriated funds under the Safe and Secure Communities Act pursuant to NJSA 52:27D-118.11(a) (b) (c), to provide for additional police officers in municipalities to enhance their law enforcement efforts; and

WHEREAS, this funding is designed to provide municipalities financial support to add law enforcement personnel vital to effective police operations and other crime reduction strategies as determined by the needs of the community. The Newark Police Department will use the grant to offset the salaries of 8 community service officers; and

WHEREAS, on April 10, 2012, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Director of Police submitted an application to the NJ Division of Criminal Justice requesting grant funding in the amount of $112,877.00 from the New Jersey Safe and Secure Communities Grant Program to offset the salaries of 8 community service officers; and

WHEREAS, as a result of this application, the City of Newark has been awarded a grant in the amount of $112,877.00 from the NJ Division of Criminal Justice to supplement the salaries of 8 community service officers...
