WHEREAS, the City of Newark is beset by incidents of violent crime throughout various parts of the city and would benefit from assistance provided through the Edward Byrne Discretionary Grant - Targeting Violent Crime Initiative Program by utilizing the funding for overtime crime initiatives; and

WHEREAS, on September 18, 2012, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Director of Police submitted an application to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Criminal Justice, requesting grant funding in the amount of $75,440.00, from the Edward Byrne Discretionary Grant - Targeting Violent Crime Initiative Grant Program to be used to fund police overtime initiatives to address violent crime in the wards of the City suffering the most violence with no City funds required; and

WHEREAS, as a result of this application, the City of Newark has been awarded a grant in the amount of $75,440.00, from the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Criminal Justice for Edward Byrne Discretionary Grant - Targeting Violent Crime Initiative Grant Program, for the period commencing on October 1, 20...
