WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, ("the State"), offers grants to Municipalities to build neighborhoods and to provide financial and technical assistance to improve the quality of life for low-income, disabled and disadvantaged residents; and

WHEREAS, the City of Newark ("City") through the Brick City Peace Collective ("BCPC") wishes to reduce violence and strengthen relationships between law enforcement and Newark communities; and

WHEREAS, the City desires to further the public interest by obtaining funding in the form of a Two Hundred Fifty-Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($250,000.00), grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to support violence reduction efforts by gathering evidence on the ground and providing guidance to practitioners and policymakers who seek to improve communities through measurable data-driven strategies (the "Project"); and

WHEREAS, the Business Administrator recommends that the City make application for such a grant; and
