WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Roberto Caba?as, Jr., community activist, organizer and mentor, was born in Belleville, New Jersey and raised primarily in the City of Newark, New Jersey; and

WHEREAS, popular, personable and determined, Roberto attended Rutgers-Newark where he majored in Political Science and served as the Student Government President from 2008 through 2010; and

WHEREAS, through his rewarding work as a leader in Rutgers-Newark student governance where he helped shape policy, he engaged in community improvement and service projects and numerous issues vital to the community which inspired him to seek a career in public service and dedicate his life to giving back to the community he loved; and

WHEREAS, upon graduation, Roberto's career path and lifetime of service included working with several of New Jersey's and the City of Newark's largest and most influential non-profit organizations, including La Casa Don Pedro, New Jersey Citizen's Action and New Jersey Communities United, in addition to, co-founding the Alliance for Newark Public Schools, the grassroots, community-based organization that was the catalyst for the successful fight to return the Newark Public Schools to local control, and garnered him national acclaim.
