WHEREAS, Passage of Senate Bill S-2841 will impose another financial burden to the taxi cab-autocab industry, which since the introduction of ride-sharing companies, has drastically transformed the industry; and

WHEREAS, unlike ride-sharing companies that offer easy entry and few regulatory restrictions for operators, taxicab-autocab drivers continue to face increased insurance coverage costs and premiums, gas and maintenance costs, increased safety standards regulatory costs and inspections; in addition to, regulations on the costs they can charge the consumers and where and how they pick-up riders; and

WHEREAS, the additional insurance costs proposed by Senate Bill S-2841 only adds to the ever-increasing burdens faces by professional taxi drivers, leading to the eventual elimination of the New Jersey taxi cab-autocab industry and the joblessness and financial ruins of thousands of hardworking men and women.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
